Lab Technician
Speedata is an innovative fabless semiconductor startup developing the world’s first Analytics Processing Unit (APU) for big data analytics. Our custom processor accelerates data-center workloads by orders of magnitude while slashing costs and power usage, eliminating performance bottlenecks at the hardware level. Backed by years of research and a passionate team, we’re on a mission to transform how enterprises gain insights from data. At Speedata, you’ll join a brilliant, fast-growing team committed to innovation, creativity, and integrity – all in a fun, collaborative environment where bold ideas are welcome
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Lab Technician to keep our hardware lab running smoothly while also owning our product Bill of Materials (BOM) and inventory processes. In this on-site role, you’ll be the go-to person for managing and testing our cutting-edge analytics accelerator cards and servers, programming FLASH devices, and ensuring that lab resources, stock, and BOM documentation are always accurate and ready to support engineering. If you love working with hardware, organizing complex setups, and making sure everything runs like clockwork, this role is for you!
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Setup & Maintenance: Install, swap, and configure PCIe-based accelerator cards in lab servers and test rigs (alongside CPUs, memory, SSDs, etc.). Assemble systems, manage cabling, and set up test equipment.
FLASH Programming & Firmware Updates: Burn and program FLASH components (e.g., EEPROMs, SPI Flash) using standard programmers and tools. Flash firmware/images to accelerator cards and lab systems, ensuring everything runs the latest versions.
Testing & Troubleshooting: Run test scripts to validate performance and stability. Monitor test runs, collect diagnostics, and collaborate with engineers on troubleshooting.
BOM Management: Own and update the product Bill of Materials (BOM), ensuring accuracy across hardware revisions. Work closely with engineering to reflect design changes and maintain alignment with project requirements.
Lab Organization & Inventory: Maintain an accurate, structured inventory of all lab assets (PCIe cards, servers, cables, and components). Track hardware locations and status, organize shelves/storage, and ensure stock levels are monitored.
Procurement Support: Proactively flag low stock, prepare part counts, and provide supplier references to support purchasing. Coordinate incoming deliveries and integrate them into the lab workflow.
Lab Safety & Upkeep: Keep the lab safe, tidy, and ESD-compliant. Manage cable organization, follow handling procedures, and maintain a professional lab environment.
What You Bring
Hands-on Hardware Experience: You’ve built or maintained PCs/servers or worked in a lab/IT environment. Comfortable installing and replacing components and handling servers.
BOM & Inventory Skills: Experience maintaining spreadsheets, databases, or systems to manage hardware stock. Comfortable tracking parts across multiple projects and keeping BOMs accurate.
Tech Savvy: Familiarity with programming/burning FLASH components (e.g., EEPROMs, SPI Flash) using standard tools. Comfortable running scripts or basic command-line tools on Linux/Windows to execute tests (you don’t need to be a programmer, but you can follow and execute test procedures).
Detail-Oriented: Highly organized, accurate, and methodical. You love labeling, logging, and keeping things in order.
Problem-Solver: Logical and patient when troubleshooting. You enjoy figuring out why hardware misbehaves and helping resolve it.
Physical & Practical: Comfortable with light physical work like swapping cards, moving gear, or cabling racks.
Team Player: Strong communication and a positive attitude. You thrive in a fast-paced startup, eager to learn and wear many hats.
Why Join Speedata?
By joining Speedata, you’ll be at the forefront of tech innovation , helping build game-changing hardware that redefines analytics speed. This isn’t just another lab job – it’s an opportunity to grow your skills with cutting-edge technology and make a real impact on our flagship product. You’ll work alongside a supportive team that values bold ideas and creative problem-solving. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and be part of the data revolution, we’d love to hear from you!
